March 2007’s Wine Tip of The Month
Groovin’ on Gruner…
Gruner (literally referring to green) Veltliner pronounced GROO-ner VELT-lee-ner, not the name of a mad scientist rather, it is a great spring like wine produced in Austria with the grape of the same name. Gruner (as those in the know call it) is a terrific and nice change from the usual suspects when you’re looking for a pungent, aromatic and zingy glass of white wine.
Wines made from this grape tend to be anything but wallflowers and if you like racy Reisling or zesty Sauvignon Blancs, chances are you might just groove on Gruner.
Gruner Veltliner "Gmork" Anton Bauer 2005 (Austria) about $10
Berger Gruner Veltliner bonus it’s a 1.5Litre bottle as opposed to the standard 750 ml (making it perfect for party wine. $12
