Port 101

February and Valentine's Day oblige me, as a responsible wine woman to speak of this form of liquid love known as Port. Only Port produced in the Douro valley in Portugal is REALLY Port. Lots of other countries make "port-style" wine (including the US), but the real 'Ports' come from Portugal. Just like the real 'Champagnes' come from Champagne, France.
Anyhoo, where to start? Be on the lookout for 'complimentary' Port tastings at your favorite wine shop, great way to learn affordably (and Port can be pricey). In the meantime, here's a basic primer:
White Ports (sweet and dry styles), Ruby Ports (Vintage Character, LBV, "Crusted and just plain Ruby),Tawny Ports (plain, vintage ranging from 10-

Chocolate & Love

Chocolate - Very few don't like it. Most of us know little about it other than we love to indulge in it. Did you know chocolate is one of the oldest confections known to man with it's earliest roots traced back to the Mayan empire 600AD? Maybe you didn't know that chocolate has as many nuances and varying tastes as fine wine? Perhaps that's why it's a natural match with rich reds like Zinfandels, Cabernets and of course, Port.

You asked, we're doing it! Hitting the road luxury style for a great stay in my home town Montreal ! Which just so happens to be a world wide hub of gastronomy and wine appreciation.
