3,000 plus wining, dining and changing the world, one sip at a time!
April 2006 we begin the third year of a "little idea
that's making a big difference". Without you, we
never would have made it this far. THANK YOU.
With that in mind, we invite you to party with a
purpose on Wednesday April 26, 2006. We are
raising money & awareness for My Sister's
Place, an
extremely worthwhile organization that helps
homeless women and children in the Baltimore area.
Tickets are $65 for members/ $75 for non members &
$60 for designated drivers. Hurry though, at last
count, there are already 75+ of you and we've only a
a few seats left so don't tarry, register ASAP.

Groovy Grapes for the holidays

Try something different with your menu!
Passover and Easter feature menu items you may or
may not enjoy regularly. No better occasion to try
a bunch of different wines. Gamay, Gewurtz, Pinotage
and Riesling are some of my favorites for this time
of year whether I'm
consulting for a client or designing my own menu; as
a result, one of each usually finds itself on the table.
Before I get in to the wines I wanted to share a
great site with you that features history, traditions,
menu suggestions (even wine recommendations) for
both Passover and Easter. It's called FabulousFood.
com.
For Easter click here. For Passover click here. Whatever religion
you are I find it's always fun to check out both.
Gamay - I got into Gamay, living in France for years,
with Gamay you make Beaujolais. When I say
Beaujolais, I don't mean the insipid stuff -
marketed as Beaujolais Nouveau, I mean the
good stuff - Brouilly, Moulin a Vent, Fleurie...most
are under $20 and any decent wine monger should
have more than one to choose from.
Gewurtztraminer... ah, the name alone can give the
timid wine drinker a headache. Just call it "Gewurtz"
(that's what the pros do). Gewurtztraminer means
"spicy grape" and you can find versions from
Germany, Austria, France and even the USA. It's
great with ham.
Pinotage - A hybrid of Cinsault & Pinot Noir - a red
that works with both ham & lamb. They can range
from lighter to hefty so make sure you ask for a
recommendation with your particular preference in
mind. It's also a great cooking wine... I marinate
leg of lamb in it, should it be on my menu. Riesling
we talked about last month, it is a favorite of mine
all year long, so if you still haven't ventured out
to try it, do so, it is perfect for spring and
summer sipping. Check out the member only part of
our new, re-designed web site (coming soon) that
will feature an entire list of wine recommendations
and recipes for pairing.

A great new spa - Spa Sante!
|
|
Finally... no more trekking to DC for serious spa treatments unless you want to
I heard about this great place from my buddy - Patti
Neumann, who's the CEO of a great site called: Citypeek.com
(which you should check out as she covers anything
worth covering to have fun in Baltimore, and a bunch
of other cities ;)
Last Saturday I went and had a massage, as well as
a Citrus Scrub, and got my hair done... and it was
fabulous. So fabulous, we are working on hosting a
Sip & Spa, schedule permitting, very soon.

As always we try to keep this short, but there's just
so much grape stuff (pun intended) and other things
to tell 'ya. And remember if it looks kinda like the
WW&D but doesn't say it's the WW&D - it's not the
WW&D. There are more than one women-only wine
event and we know a few of you have been
confused. Often imitated but never replicated, help
us help others - come wine and dine with us soon!
Until next time, cheers and remember "don't drink & drive!" Best, M
